Frank Buckles, America's last known veteran of World War I, died today. There are no known remaining veterans of Germany, Austria, France, Italy, or of any other combatant army. They are all gone "over there". I wish them peace. And that we, following behind, remember a few of them come Armistice Day. Now, they are all poppies in a field...

Flanders Fields...a powerful poem.
I heard on the new there are only two left in the world...both in the UK. Considering it was almost 100 years ago it's quite amazing.
Do they make children memorize that poem in American schools? When I was growing up all Canadian children had to recite it (I guess because it was written by a Canadian) and I can still get a good chunk of the way through it without having to look it up. Or crying.
