Hello!

Welcome to The Epic! I am launching this blog as a manifesto for and a guide to living well. The title and motto of the blog are taken from the Epicureans, at least some of whom believed in the notion that not one minute of the future was guaranteed to them and that as a result they had the duty to live life to its fullest every moment.

I believe in discovering fun and pleasurable things wherever I find myself each day and I am told I have a knack for unearthing them. My hope is that by sharing in my pleasures and some of my ways of finding them you will begin to collect all the riches that lie in the moments of your life. They are there. Take them! All our lives should be.....Epic.

Mookish Friday Night

The dictionary defines a "mook" as an insignificant person. You want to find the mother land of all mooks? Come join me and the rest. At the Atlanta airport late on a Friday night. Lousy weather all day. All flights delayed. By HOURS. A run on the bar at the Crown Room Club. Looks like Wall Street. Or your local bank.

But then a sculpture gallery broke out. When least expected. If you get the chance to come through the ATL, try to take the tunnel to the "T" concourse. You will go by a magnificent display of African sculpture. I'll bet millions of people pass right by it without really noticing. Like I did. Until Mook Friday Night. Look at these lovely pieces..Mother and child...

A lonely traveler...

The joy of play...

The glory of the Family...

And my personal favorite...

...a family clasped firmly in the hand of....a Higher Power. Safe as can be.

I MAY get home tonight. But it is a great thing to know that on the many occasions when I am away, the Irish Redhead and the Future Rock Star have that great big hand about them. And that the Crown Room Club has not [yet] run out of bourbon....

Cool sculptures! I have never noticed them before, but for the last several years I have avoided ATL at all costs! Flights never seem to run on time there, and I feel like I am waiting in a train station! I now fly through Tampa instead and it is so quiet and peaceful!
Hope you get home soon!!

I always try to go through the T-gate security line, it's like the secret little corner where you don't have to stand in line. Those are great sculpture. They're in the midst of some remodeling thing now, so I'm not quite sure what they've done with the stuff on all the other concourses but it seems to be missing.

I hate the ATL airport with a passion and I live here. The only good thing is that you can literally get on a plane and get off most anywhere you need to go without going through another airport (less likely to lose your luggage). But connecting through here, no thanks.

What a nice thing to come upon. There was nothing nearly as interesting last week for me in the Baltimore or Charlotte airports. Thank goodness for wireless (FREE in Charlotte).

Thanks for all your visits and comments!

Petunia, I love Tampa also but don't have the occasion to get there a lot. Ironically, I was IN the Tampa airport for a good bit yesterday before being marooned in Atlanta.

As much as I am always in or out of Atlanta, I rarely ever have a bad experience there. Just lots of people going every which way. It was like somebody had kicked over a hill of red ants yesterday though!!

I did get home. About 1230 am today.

Phew. The flipside of my "I don't travel for business enough" lament recently. Although you certainly made the best of it. That is the key to making it Epic, now isn't it.

I'm a little behind in reading - but I LOVE those sculptures! any time I have a flight on A concourse, I walk to it so I can see these sculptures. My favorite changes each time. I feel so high-minded and cultural stepping onto the plane!
