Hello!

Welcome to The Epic! I am launching this blog as a manifesto for and a guide to living well. The title and motto of the blog are taken from the Epicureans, at least some of whom believed in the notion that not one minute of the future was guaranteed to them and that as a result they had the duty to live life to its fullest every moment.

I believe in discovering fun and pleasurable things wherever I find myself each day and I am told I have a knack for unearthing them. My hope is that by sharing in my pleasures and some of my ways of finding them you will begin to collect all the riches that lie in the moments of your life. They are there. Take them! All our lives should be.....Epic.

Fuzzy Photos From Great Bars

Coco, Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.

Also a very fine Thai restaurant. Ask for the Samosas and the whole fish with red curry sauce. Tell them the guy that ate there five meals out of the first six they ever served sent you.

I hate to admit this, but I am a 65yr. old female who thinks your blog rocks. (is that OK to say at 65?) I'm getting very fed up with the "usual" female blogs, et al. If you're familiar with Lucius Beebe and the Gourmet magazines, that go back to their inception in the early 40's, this is how I picture you. A true Bon Vivant. Bravo, to your lady. I look forward to more of your posts. Jackie

I'm not sure this was saved or not because my screen went blank and I lost your webpage. So some of this comment may be redundant.

I hate to admit this, but I am a 65yr. old female who thinks your blog rocks. (is that OK to say that at 65?) I'm getting very fed up with the "usual" female blogs, et. al., and some of the very same mundane posts they actually spend time on. Michael Lee West who has Designs by Gollum is actually the last of the "girlie, girlie, sites I visit on a regular basis. She takes it to a step higher and her Foodie Friday is spectacular. Her food photography is'nt too tacky either. She is a national author, so her posts tend to be sporadic, because of deadlines. However, her Foodie Friday is worth a puruse.

P.S. I'm not sure if you have some of the really old, REALLY good books about fine dining, eating and writing. I'm referring to the likes of Brillat-Savarin; Physiology of Taste (original, not the re-write by Mary Frances); The Complete Art of Eating; by Mary Frances Kennedy Fisher; Blue Trout and Black Truffles, by Joseph Weschsberg (first printing),and several different books by Roy Andries de Groot, particularly "The Auberge of Flowering Hearth", I am constantly looking for old books on food and any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. It will be such a joy to follow your posts. You seem to have the knowledge, deepth and sense of humore that true foodies excude through their pores. I may be old but I'll never lose my desire to listen or read someone who has elevated fine cuisine to another level, but I must have a glass of Champagne, while I wait. Jackie

Jackie, thank you very much! I am so glad you enjoy visiting The Epic. Bon Vivant is what I have been striving for, on and off the internet, and the Beebe comparison is one of the best compliments I could receive.

As for the classic writers, I will have to revisit my copies of some of my food related books and see when they came out. I do have a fairly old version of Louis Diat's Gourmet Cookbook which is great and also the Gourmet published "Bouquet de France" bu Chamberlin which is really wonderful.

I do disagree on one point. You are NOT "old"!!! One of my major philosophies is that "old" is a state of mind and not a number. From your comments I can tell you are not old by Epic standards. Save a glass of champagne for me, I look forward to sharing it with you.
